Disappointment
An emotion that arises when reality falls short of expectation.
Why do I feel this way?
Disappointment happens when hopes, plans or dreams do not turn out as imagined.
It reveals the gap between desire and reality.
Disappointment isn't proof that you were foolish, it's proof that you cared.
How to change or channel it
- Name exactly what you were hoping for.
- Allow yourself to mourn the loss.
- Shift toward acceptance: Adjust your path, not your worth.
- Let disappointment fuel wiser, more grounded hope.

Living with this feeling
Original Lantern Project guidance inspired by this topic. This section is not copied from the source book.
Casey notices disappointment while moving through a difficult week. Instead of judging the feeling or forcing it away, Casey names what is present and chooses one supportive practice: name exactly what you were hoping for.. The feeling may still be there, but it is no longer the only voice directing the moment. Casey has created enough space to choose what comes next with greater care.
“I can acknowledge disappointment without letting it define every part of me. I can listen to what it may be showing me and choose one caring next step.”
What might disappointment be asking me to notice, protect, accept, express, or change today?
