Why Do I Feel This Way... And How To Change It
Self Compassion
An emotion that arises from offering kindness inward instead of judgment.
Why do I feel this way?
What does self compassion mean?
Self compassion arises when you treat your own struggles with the same kindness, patience and care you would offer someone you love.
It strengthens resilience by softening inner criticism.
How to change or channel it
What can help right now?
- Speak to yourself like you would to a struggling friend.
- Normalize mistakes and hardships as part of being human.
- Build micro practices of self kindness into daily life through breath, words and actions.
- Let self compassion fuel growth as love moves us forward.

Living with this feeling
Drew spills coffee on the report ten minutes before the presentation. The first thought is immediate and cruel: You always ruin things. Drew hears it and tries the voice used with everyone else: ‘You are stressed. It was an accident. Get a towel.’ The report is reprinted. The presentation begins two minutes late. Self compassion does not lower the standard. It removes the punishment that never helped Drew meet it.
Self Compassion can be present without being in charge. One thoughtful response is enough for now.
Who responded well when you felt self compassion in the past? What did they understand that others missed?
