Why Do I Feel This Way... And How To Change It
Jeopardy
An emotion that arises from sensing high risk or threat.
Why do I feel this way?
What does jeopardy mean?
Jeopardy ignites when something valuable (a relationship, a dream, your safety) feels genuinely at risk.
It heightens focus and urgency, calling for action or protection.
How to change or channel it
What can help right now?
- Identify exactly what's at risk, be specific.
- Assess realisticallyHow much danger is real versus imagined?
- Focus on protecting or strengthening what matters most.
- Act strategically, not reactively, since careful movement is strength under pressure.

Living with this feeling
Jamie notices the smoke alarm chirping, then smells something sharp near the outlet. The mind wants to minimize it because calling for help feels dramatic. Jeopardy is the body saying the cost of waiting may be high. Jamie unplugs the power strip, gets everyone outside and calls the fire department from the sidewalk. The responders find overheated wiring. Safety sometimes depends on treating uncertainty seriously before certainty arrives.
Feeling jeopardy is part of my present experience, not all of who I am. I can listen and choose a caring next step.
